About

The Hoffman Post (formerly The Drudge Retort) is a blog to retort the lies perpetuated by Republicans and sites like The Drudge Report and right-wing TV pundits. We’ll also go after the Blue-Dog Democrats who are Democrats in name only.

Who is Ben Hoffman?
Ben is a middle-aged software engineer living in Denver, Colorado with his wife and their dog Molly. Ben earned his computer science degree from the University of Colorado and has been developing software for over 20 years. His hobbies include playing classic rock on his guitar, cartooning, sports, history, and of course politics.

All comments are welcome except for those that contain personal insults with no valid arguments. Also, if you make a comment not supported by facts, you may receive an unpleasant retort. 🙂

  1. Itamar from JewNews here. Added you to Gtalk. Let me know when you have time to talk 🙂

    Shana Tova!

  2. Funny that I should find this on your page:

“All comments are welcome except for those that contain personal insults with no valid arguments. Also, if you make a comment not supported by facts, you may receive an unpleasant retort. :)”

Yet, you make a nonsensical comment on my blog and reguse to clarify? Curious double standard, unknown blog commentator!

  3. Thanks for leaving a comment on my blog, Ben. Nice to find another voice of reason. Have a peaceful Yom Kippur.

    Jim

    PS: Nice cartoons, too!

  4. Speaking of cartoons..have you every played around with flash? You could build nice animated cartoons to mess with us right wingers.

  5. Thanks for continuing the partisan politics:)

  6. Thanks Ben for dropping by at my place. I see we share a friend in Steve.

  7. Thanks for the leaving a comment on my blog! A very much needed laugh when I followed the link! 🙂 Added you to the blogroll and I certainly hope to see you around the blog-cooler again! Have a great day!

  8. Ben,
Thanks for your comment on mine! It’s always nice to get a left-winger’s perspective of things.

  9. Thanks Ben for your comment. You seem like an avid blogger with a substantial following. Interesting blogs you wrote and I can see your frustration with right-wing conservatives. Thanks for your comment.

  10. ben, i may be a total idiot (and a confirmation of that supposition is not required), but i’ve been unable to figure out where to click on your posts in order to leave a comment. when i click on the comments line, i can see other people’s comments, but i don’t see a place to post my own. what am i doing wrong?

  11. Ben,thank you for reading my blog recently. From reading yours it seems we may disagree on a number of issues, however I look forward to reading your posts nonetheless.

  12. Hi, Ben;

I notice that you don’t follow your own policy when commenting on other people’s sites. In your policy statement above, you state: “All comments are welcome except for those that contain personal insults with no valid arguments. Also, if you make a comment not supported by facts, you may receive an unpleasant retort.”

Yet you commented on my site, called my statements lies (calling me a liar by implication), and directly called me ignorant, and did not provide any facts or documentation to back up any of your assertions.

I’ll tell you what. You can come on my blog and comment any time you want, as long as you obey your own published rules of conduct, which are in fact very similar to mine.

But don’t come back if you’re sole contribution is to call me names, even indirectly. It doesn’t reflect well on you.

    -Popgun

    • You are a liar, popgun. You complain for the sake of complaining — not for any concern for the direction of our country. You threated to ban me from your site. Feel free. You don’t offer anything 100s of other right-wing bloggers offer, which are just talking points with no critical thought.

      • Still no facts or documentation, I see. You devolve to name calling instead of producing any sort of logic or facts. Pitiful.

You are banned from my site for the name calling, not your views. It is possible for left and right to have good debates, but you insist on holding them at a grade school level.

        FAIL.

        -Popgun

      • Ha! Banned by another right-wing blog. 🙂 I’ve never banned anyone from my blog.

    • Ben you’re just like all of the other stupid Liberals out there. A HYPOCRITE, A LIAR, AND AN ARROGANT PRICK! Your posts have no valid points at all.
YOUR BLOG MY FRIEND IS A WASTE OF TIME!

  13. Thanks for stopping by! I love your blog title!

  14. I agree with popgun. Ben Hoffman trolls other sites looking to make rude comments in hopes that those people will come to his site to drive up his pitiful traffic count. He rides Drudge’s coattails and degrades others views to inflate his own self worth and ego. Typical liberal and typically wrong. He says he’s never banned anyone from his site yet he deletes all my comments.

    • Well, you only made one comment and like this one, contained only insults. The only thing I said on your site was that churches should be taxed to help balance the budget and you deleted it.

But thanks for visiting. Feel free to participate in the debates (if you can do so without insulting anyone).

  15. I wonder how many suffer from the Dunning-Kruger effect around here. It would certainly explain some of the gems of wisdom I have seen tossed around in various threads.

    • [I wonder how many suffer from the Dunning-Kruger effect around here.]

I don’t think it’s those who are unaware of their own incompetence who “suffer.” It’s those of us who have to deal with them who suffer. 🙂

That’s also a big problem in the workplace. You get people making bad decisions but don’t realize it.

      Here’s the actual study:

I’m going to read it this evening. Psychology is one of my favorite subjects.

  16. Why I stopped watching Hannity before I even started. Was directed to this by a post on partisandawn.wordpress.com.

  17. With a name like this, just had to check the antidrudge. Never cared for the guy yet he is rated high on viewing #s. Maybe he’ll get the ultimate scoop someday, a photo of our Prez opening a pack of Kools from the bottom!

E.J. Dionne, Jr. of the Washington Post wrote a piece that I find interesting considering the left-right debate. Just wanted to bring it to your attention.

    • [So far, the Obama administration has missed the opportunity to demonstrate to such voters how it is changing the way government works.]

The problem is, too much of government hasn’t changed. It’s still pandering to special interests, as seen with the health care reform.

      • Agreed. I think we keep dwelling on the symptoms rather than the cause (a government that caters too much to special interests) than we do the cause (the power SI’s have to begin with).

Add to this that our public is largely ignorant (myself included, certain days!) and ADD-stricken, and what a mess we have! 🙂

      • There’s really only one fix – public financing – but I honestly don’t see how we ever get there. The congress has to pass the law and they’re way too compromised already.

  19. Ben, I’d like to add you to my list of blogs…with your permission.

  20. You rather shocked me by commenting on my most recent blog entry while I was still doing a final edit! We seem to be in sync in many things- except maybe avid support of the Democratic Party. I also find less strident labeling (conservative/liberal) helps when talking to people, and I’m heartily sick of the cheerleading-yea-team approach that has replaced policy discussions by both parties. Their obvious collusion and support of the Corporate State makes most of the rest nearly moot.

  21. I’ve added you to my blogroll – we need more sites like this one!

  22. Hey Ben.
Great Blog! Keep up the good work. I agree with Gracie.

  23. Ben…love the blog. Love the difference in opinion. Keep the dialogue rolling.

  24. Great blog, Ben!

  25. Ben if you have the time could you visit my latest post? I am writing now with the less “I”s and to me it does sound better. Is there anything else you think could improve?

  26. Oh, boy… I am all heart:) I do have facts but I am sure you have many facts of your own to dish out:) I actually smiled and laughed out loud as I started reading you blog. I thought to myself, Oh boy what have I got myself into… I’m just a 27 year old women who is on fire for her God:) I am also dealing with a personal battle that has worn me down mentally, yet somehow I find the will to survive… I wonder where I get that from? 🙂 Do you have any ideas:) I would love to hear them. 🙂 I really am not being a smart ass:) Oh.. did the christian girl just say that:) I just think that the one person who commented on my blog, that took so much effort and time to write completely disagrees with me:)

  27. Ben

just a thank you note for your comments at Somers Place.

Your words make me post more, which is the whole point of blogging (I think) – interaction with others that one might not meet in the real world.

    Somerville

  28. Ben, thanks for your visit and comment over at my place. Always happy to meet a Denver neighbor.

  29. Kinda curious about the dog. What kind? I assume it’s not blue. 🙂

  30. Ben, I am glad to see that you retracted your statement regarding Mike Fallon being a liar. Because, that statement is a lie in itself. I am proud to be associated with this man simply because of his integrity. He doesn’t lean far right, which is the problem with both the GOP and the Tea party, but sticks to the issues, jobs and econmony, that are important to most independents.

  31. Hi Ben,

Clearly we agree on little, but I enjoy reading your blog. Thanks for visiting my site the other day and taking the time to comment.

    Larry

  32. Hello Ben,

Traced your site from your comment on mine. Good to see a fellow traveler in Colorado and enjoy your site, especially the scientific research on the right wing brain.

    Jim

  33. Ben,
I like your blog and your message. I would love to have you be a guest author for Rants & Rage. It’s a brand new project I started a couple of weeks ago. I’m trying to bring a diverse group of people to write about topics they are passionate about. Politics, religion, social issues, culture, technology, etc. Anything goes. I’m trying to make the authors of the blog the superstars. I want people coming to the blog and clicking on their favorite author to see what they have to say today.

Go check it out at rantsandrage.wordpress.com. I have a lot of Christians and right-wingers for authors. I’m an atheist, personally. I need back up. lol You can write me at lyn@lynmaystudios.com if you are interested in speaking your mind. Maybe even do reposts on my blog, you can link them to yours if you like.

  34. Hi Ben,

Nice blog you’ve got here. I hope it is okay that I added your blog to my blogroll (if you’d rather I don’t just let me know). Keep up the good work. 🙂

    Peace,

  35. “Whining is also not allowed.” Coming from a liberal, that statement in itself is laughable.
Keep the blog going Ben, it makes for good humor.

  36. Hey Ben! Thank you for your visits and comments to my futile attempts to trigger some provocative thoughts, perhaps enlightenment. I am flatter you even noticed me. Much more to be accounted by you. Maybe we cannot dis-connect religious/”moral” beliefs based on superstition to be applied to policy/politics. If we cannot change arcane thinking, the least we can do is to expose it . . . with education. No pun to religion.
Love your pages and I hope one day other readers love mine the same way.
We better shoot for the heavens. It takes the same effort than to shoot our foot! All comes with their own duality. Otherwise, we only get half the whole.

  37. Ben, How do I get in contact with you? I want to talk to you about doing a blog talk radio show.

    i am at jwsclear@gmail.com

    thanks.

    John Smart

  38. Ben, thanks for following my blog. I checked yours out and plan to follow it as well. It is not very gutsy to be a liberal of the east coast like me. You, however are in Colorado. Aren’t you kinda putting your life on the line?

    Ron

    • Hey Ron, Colorado is kind of a “purple” state. Denver is decidedly liberal, as is Boulder, while Colorado Springs is… well, it’s home to Focus on the Family. We have a Democratic governor. But there are a lot of right-wing, gun loving nut-jobs here, so you do have to be a little careful. I wouldn’t put an Obama bumper sticker on my car without expecting some kind of violent reaction.

I grew up in a small town in New York, and there were a lot of right-wingers there, also.

    • How ridiculous. Life on the line? Hardly, Ben is a coward.

  39. Hi Ben – you’ve been quiet for way too long. Hope everything is okay?

  40. You fucking people are queer dumbfucks.

  41. I am not sure where you are getting your information, but good topic.

it to some pals ans additionally sharing in delicious.
And obviously, thank you in your effort!

  43. Why can’t liberals openly say that the US Federal government makes the best decisions for the “greater good”? Why can’t liberals just come out of the closet and say that our elected leaders know best, and we should surrender our liberties in the name of safety?

  44. I miss your cartoons, and I find the links to most appear to have expired.

Any chance of your bringing them back?

P.S. Dunning Kruger Effect wasn’t invented by the right wing whiners, but they’ve really got it down, don’t they? In addition to the original study by Drs. Dunning and Kruger, your readers may be interested in what Bertrand Russell, Will Rogers and Kin Hubbard had to say about it.

Feel free to drop by an leave comments!

  45. Egad Ben! I didn’t know you were back till the WP email with this comment. I’m thrilled – had been missing you. I was so sure you’d just quit, I even took you off my blogroll. Well, you’re going right back on.

I’ve slowed to a crawl myself this year – got overwhelmed with other obligations. I keep trying to get back to posting with some regularity, but not doing too well. I do miss it. Soon, I hope. Meanwhile, nice to know you’re back. There’s just never enough snark in the world.

  46. Support the GOP or your a looser.

  47. I just like the helpful information you provide for your articles.
I’ll bookmark your blog and take a look at again here regularly.

  58. Neither is informed disagreement, apparently.

  59. Ah! There’s the Ben we grew to love and admire!

  60. A conservative will call you every name in the book and then play the victim when they get anything back in return. They’re pathetic little whiners.

  61. I have no life. It sucks.
