    • Sorry, you don’t have facts on your side. Bush admitted China into the WTO and granted them MFN trading status, which tremendously increased demand for oil. Bush invaded Iraq, which depleted supplies and created massive unrest in the Middle East. Republicans authored the Commodities Futures Modernization Act (which was jammed in the back of the Appropriations Bill) which allowed speculators to drive up the price of oil.

  1. Mr. Hoffman,

I actually like to study you. You are representative of a large group on your side, so if I figure you out I can predict what Obama Inc. will do next . I’ve been puzzled as to why you have not blamed the big bad oil companies yet .You have demonized Republicans, blamed speculators , and threw out the Bush-Iraq line. What’s holding back blame big oil ? Did Obama get paid off with the BP slush fund or what ?

  2. Mr. Hoffman ,

Okay, I am here to learn. Do Democrats want high oil prices or low oil prices ? Energy Secretary Chu said in 2008 “ Somehow we have to figure out how to boost the price of gasoline to the levels in Europe ” . Then recently he said “ Of course we don’t want the price of gasoline to go up, we want it to go down. ”

So what are the facts ?

    • It doesn’t matter what Steven Chu said before he became Energy Secretary. What matters is policy. Domestic oil production is the highest it’s been since 2003.

High gas prices are the result of Republican policies. The Commodities Futures Modernization Act allowed speculation on oil. Bush’s war in Iraq created shortages. Republicans blocked bills that would keep domestic oil from being exported. Granting China MFN status and allowing them into the WTO increased world demand that drove up oil prices.

So I ask you this: Why do Republicans promote policies that drive up the cost of gas?

  3. Mr. Hoffman,

” What matters is policy. Domestic oil production is the highest it’s been since 2003. ”

So this is because of President Obama’s policies ?

” The Commodities Futures Modernization Act allowed speculation on oil.”

So why only now are there bills being introduced to curb speculators ? The two years Harry Reid and Nancy Pelosi controlled both Houses of Congress, I do not recall any legislation .

” Bush’s war in Iraq created shortages. ”

Actually I can argue the point from the present. The shortages caused by Bush’s Iraq war are over now. Before Bush’s war Iraqi oil production was lowered by the sanctions on Saddam Hussein . Right now Iraq’s oil production is the highest since 1979 . That is according to Reuters, as of March 5, 2012. If Saddam was still ruling Iraq, production would not be as high as now.

” Republicans blocked bills that would keep domestic oil from being exported. ”

    I concede your point .

” Granting China MFN status and allowing them into the WTO increased world demand that drove up oil prices. ”

I concede that point too .

” So I ask you this: Why do Republicans promote policies that drive up the cost of gas? ”

That is not their intention .

    • So why only now are there bills being introduced to curb speculators ?

I don’t believe there are any current bills to do that, but there should be.

The shortages caused by Bush’s Iraq war are over now.

The problem now is unrest in the Middle East and speculators driving up the prices.

That is not their intention .

It doesn’t matter if that is their “intention.” It’s what they’re doing, and by supporting them, you’re partially responsible for high gas prices.

  4. Mr. Hoffman ,

So then are you partially responsible for the things President Obama has done ?

    • Yep, I’m partially responsible for the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act, the Stimulus, the killing of Bin Laden and other Al Qaeda leaders, our joint action with NATO to get rid of Gaddafi, school reform, restoring our standing in world affairs, the auto bailout, the promotion of renewable energy… Those things have all made our country better.

  5. Mr. Hoffman,

It’s good you confessed. After November, you will be treated better than your fellow sinners .

    • Alan, you should thank me and the rest of the democrats for making our country better. I understand why you don’t like Obamacare, though. Poor people in Kunkletown will get their health care for free while you have to pay for yours. Doesn’t seem fair, does it? But if it works out as it should, insurance rates should go down.

  6. Mr. Hoffman,

Nothing the President has done has worked out as it should . Nothing . Of course, those of us who have been around a long time , predicted all that has happened . I’m older than you. I’ve seen this movie before under President Jimmy.

The 2010 midterms were America waking up after a bender and realizing it royally screwed up . The 2012 election will be America putting the bottle down and correcting it’s mistakes .

    • Actually, the discretionary spending part of the Stimulus did EXACTLY what it was supposed to do. It created or saved millions of jobs, improved our infrastructure, and developed alternative energy sources. I know that you right-wingers are unable to grasp the concept of “saved jobs,” but that’s your problem. The $100s of billions in tax cuts from the Stimulus, put in to appease Republicans, did little if anything to stimulate the economy. That was the largest part of the Stimulus. Voting for Republicans will result in more failed policies.

  7. The true motives and agendas of Liberalism are on full display in this country. Thanks to Obama’s relentless hatred for Free-markets and expansion of Gov’t intervention into our daily lives has allowed Americans on both sides to see what un-checked Liberalism will do to this country. In the name of “green energy” millions of American’s tax dollars have been wasted so the Leftist can try to manufacture a market that doesn’t even exist. In the name of “affordable health-care for all”; Obama has essentially ripped our Constitution to bits & declared that bureaucrats will make better decisions about our heath care than we as individuals would. Ben you can push the narrative all you want but what’s really going on in this country is very clear.

  8. Also, in regards to Oil. It’s beyond embarrassing to watch this President flat-out lie to America and say that we “subsidize” Oil co.’s. They are called tax breaks. Just like hundreds of other industry’s company’s can take advantage of “tax breaks” just like us private citizens can as well. Laughable. And what about Brazil. This President agreed to “subsidize” Oil production in Brazil, but he has a problem with domestic production of Oil. Thank goodness shortly after his pathetic speech today Congress shot this down, 4 Dem’s even opposed this bill.

  9. I honestly feel sorry for you and your fellow Liberals. Honestly. I was once a Liberal myself but I graduated college and got a job.
More importantly, I grew up. You Leftist are so enslaved by this Progressive Ideology you cannot decipher between fact and theory.
Theory of Evolution, Green Energy, Global Warming, etc. None of these are facts yet you stop at nothing to demonize those who oppose these ideas and shove these agendas down Americans throat.

  10. Who’s Steve?
At any rate your ideals or ideology are not original or unique. You’re simply adhering to the Liberal template and narrative. You don’t have the backbone or guts to do anything else.
And regardless of what your President says, Oil is not the energy of the past. Until there is an alternate energy source that gets a 747 off the ground Oil isn’t going anywhere.
But by all means, kick & scream like your fellow drones for Oil companies to be shut down. How dare they make a product that fills a major need. How dare they make profits and provide millions of jobs.
    Liberalism=hypocrisy

    • Until there is an alternate energy source that gets a 747 off the ground Oil isn’t going anywhere.

If they could run on bullshit and hot air, you right-wingers could provide the fuel.

  11. Wow Ben, classy as usual.
Seriously what will get a 747 off the ground besides jet fuel?
    Awww that’s right nothing.
“The only thing we can really do is reduce our dependence on oil.” Man, you Lib’s really have it all figured out huh. We’ll just ignore the fact that there are over 6000 products made from Petroleum. Yay Liberalism! We wanna create jobs & help the little guy but we will stop at nothing to destroy & demonize every private industry from Oil to Health Care.
