The Reagan-Bush National Debt: 15.4 TRILLION DOLLARS!!!

by Ben Hoffman

The Reagan-Bush national debt now stands at 15.443 TRILLION DOLLARS. Ronald Reagan tripled the national debt back in the 1980s. George W. Bush has nearly tripled it with his reckless tax cuts, along with decreased revenues due to high unemployment, increased payout for unemployment benefits, the two wars, and Medicare Part D. We now pay $500 billion a year just on interest on the debt. Republicans have blocked all efforts to get the deficits under control.

The estimated population of the United States is 312,291,923 so each citizen’s share of this debt is $49,453.56.

The National Debt has continued to increase an average of 4 BILLION DOLLARS PER DAY since September 28, 2007!

  1. What do you mean, “Republicans have blocked all efforts to get the deficits under control?”

Didn’t the Republicans try to cut off America’s credit last year? Haven’t they tried to kick all the old people off of Social Security and all the starving babies out of WIC? Didn’t they do their best to scuttle the bailout of GM and Chrysler?

[There, I’ve thrown it straight over the plate for you; feel free to hit it out of the park.]

  2. Umm…right, like Obama has not added 6 trillion himself? Sorry, I missed that part in your article. #liberalsignoringreality

    • How can you blame a 6 trillion dollar increase in the debt on Obama when the debt hasn’t increased by 6 trillion dollars since he’s been in office?

      • Welcome to the fantasy world of the anti-Obama types, Ben! If he could teleport himself and his mother back and forth from Kenya to Hawaii, he can add $6 trillion in debt that doesn’t show up! Plus, he walks on water and the real secret of Obama care is that Obama himself does the healing, to save money.

      • he walks on water and the real secret of Obama care is that Obama himself does the healing, to save money.

These crazy right-wingers believe that it’s actually possible for someone to do that.

    • Show me the bill that Obama has signed that added $6 trillion to the debt, the debt is driven by Bush’s tax cuts,2 unfunded wars and the unfunded Medicare Part B

  3. Yes, exactly as if Obama hasn’t added $6 trillion. He hasn’t.

As Kin Hubbard warned, it ain’t what we don’t know that gets us into trouble. It’s what we know that ain’t so.

  4. Tanner can you do math? BUsh left us with 800 billion a year just for the military 8 times 4=3.2 trillion dollars + interest sure Obama added 2 trillion to it but this is a Republican legacy that started under REAGAN

  5. 3.2 trillion is what any president is spending on the Military thanks to REAGAN BUSH BUSH

  6. So, Obama’s solution is to simply ignore trying to fix the problems and a create super expensive Government take over of health care? Right. Makes sense.

    • Obama has tried to deal with the debt the GOP has blocked him, he put a 4 trillion dollar cut on the table and the Republican House said NO !!
