Obama’s State of the Union Address

by Ben Hoffman

Obama needs to learn how to frame his comments a little better to penetrate America’s “bumper sticker” mentality. There are two central issues facing our country right now: high unemployment and high deficits.

The Republican “solution” is to fire government workers, allow businesses to pollute our environment, and allow banks to gamble with our money. And then when disaster ensues, they just blame it on the Democrats! Yeah, that’s good for our country!

Obama outlined his plan, which includes higher taxes on the highest incomes, which would help balance the budget and have little (if any) negative effect on the economy. Our infrastructure is in dire need of repair, and this is the ideal time to put people to work repairing it. We need huge cuts in military spending. The war on terror isn’t fought effectively with bombs; it’s fought with intelligence, which only requires a small fraction of the money required for traditional wars. We also need to repeal the Republican deregulation that caused the near total collapse of our economy, which means restoring Glass-Steagall.

If his SOTU speech was truly a political speech (as right-wing pundits claim), he would have called out Republicans on all the damage they’ve inflicted on our country. Republican deregulation resulted in the near total collapse of our economy. They allowed us to be attacked in 2001 and responded by invading and occupying two countries at a cost of thousands of American lives and trillions of dollars. It took intelligence to finally get Bin-Laden — not wars. Republican tax cuts (the Republican stimulus) did little to create jobs but more than doubled the national debt. Obama’s Stimulus was 1/3 tax cuts, so why all the whining about spending?

  1. “If his SOTU speech was truly a political speech” … he would have admitted that his actions have led to irrepairable damage to the United States; that he, almost single-handedly has bankrupted this nation for generations to come; that the “tax on the rich” is meaningless beyond the way people like you eat it up because you can’t stand the thought of people being more successful than you; that he is an embarrassment to this nation and the citizens of the United States … both liberal and conservative. The guy is a fraud and his wife is a as phony as he is.
I think every Republican candidate, other than Ron Paul are white Obama’s and will continue the same b.s. as Obama … who continued the same nation distruction as G.W. Bush and his traitorous, murderous acts.
What I’m the most thankful for is that all these freaks will soon be rotting in Hell right along side the others that have destroyed the earth. If Hell isn’t real than I look forward to them rotting in their graves, never to enjoy even one minute of the global eutopia they envision for their low life families.
Heck, two of the most corrupt people, (Bill and Hillary Clinton) on the planet have already started reaping for their folly. Take one look at Chelsey Clinton and you’ll know what I mean. I’ve seen a prettier face on an iodine bottle! Gawd that girl put the “ug” in ugly!

    • It must be horrible going through life so full of hatred. How exactly did Obama “bankrupt” our nation?

      • Okay, I’m guessing that the post by “Steve’s wife” is a parody of Internet insanity, and it’s pretty funny…but a joke about Chelsey Clinton’s looks? What year is it and what age is the person posting?

      • People like Steve’s wife make the U.S. the laughing stock of the world. When people who think like her get into office, it’s not so funny any more.

      • The problem with you uncle Ben is that you actually believe everything that’s gone wrong with America is the fault of Republicans. It’s laughable how naive you are even entertaining that thought. You need to wake up and realize the blame for the demise has been a joint effort by all our elected officials.

      • Matthew, Steve here, I’ll answer for my little wife. I don’t think Rina (my wife) was joking about Chelsey’s looks; nah, not a joke. Not sure what “year and age” you’re talking about. Rina was talking about here and now.

      • I don’t think the Republicans deserve all the credit for running this country into the ground. They deserve a lot though. It was a team effort. The only true bi-partisan effort has been to ruin our country. If only they worked this hard to make things better…

Look at the back of the dollar bill. Chris Pinto (adullam films) has a great documentary on how the back of the dollar outlines some sort of concerted effort to have america fail. I forget the details, but it’s quite interesting. Future Quake had an interview that had the basics. At least it explains why both sides would want to drive us into the ground.

        Moving on,

So are we voting and rating our political leaders based on looks now? In that case Gingrich should be out anytime. 🙂 at least obama’s reasonably handsome.

      • Democrats do deserve some of the blame. Clinton signed some horrible bills, such as the Telecommunications Act of 1996, the Gramm Leach Bliley Act, and the Commodity Futures Modernization Act of 2000 — of which the latter two were primary antecedents for the housing bubble and the financial sector debacle.

      • Are you not aware that he has accumulated over $5 trillion in debt in only 3 years, while he called Bush “unpatriotic and un-American” for accumulating $4 trillion over 8 years? We’ve had a 2/3 increase in food stamps over just 3 years. Gas prices are still double what they were when Obama took office. Housing market is still in the toilet, Construction industry is still suffering, food prices are steadily rising…..do you want more? He’s done nothing to fix this. He made false claims in his SOTU speech. GM is not the number one car company in the world, and they still owe the government $25 billion. That’s BILLION.

The “accomplishments” he touts are often things that are hypotheticals, not real facts. It’s basically like “It’s still bad, but it would have been worse if I hadn’t…..” Really? Who really knows? That’s nothing but spin. We would have hit a pretty low patch, but maybe we would have had a real recovery, instead of this anemic “growth” that we’re seeing now. And despite all of the jobs he claims to have been created, we’re still 2 million net jobs lower than we were when he took office.

      • Are you not aware that he has accumulated over $5 trillion in debt in only 3 years

No, the number is more like $4 trillion, and what caused the enormous deficits? The Bush tax cuts, the two wars, Medicare Part D, reduced revenues due to high unemployment, increased payouts for unemployment benefits, about $.5 trillion a year just on interest on the debt, and the Obama tax cuts, which were put in the Stimulus to appease Republicans.

    • “tax on the rich” is meaningless beyond the way people like you eat it up because you can’t stand the thought of people being more successful than you

The more egalitarian a country is the more all of its people benefit from the wealth. Write whatever thoughtless screed necessary to bulwark your opinion, but realize that is all it is.

Take one look at Chelsey Clinton and you’ll know what I mean. I’ve seen a prettier face on an iodine bottle! Gawd that girl put the “ug” in ugly!

Curious how the worst thing you can do to another female is call them ugly, or in other words, branding them as less attractive sex objects for male consumption.

  2. One last thing for now anyway; Ben Obama has made the United States the laughing stock of the world with all his ridiculous bowing and insulting every ally we have. G.W. Bush and Dick Cheney should be tried and hung right now for what they’ve done … problem is Obama is just continuing down Bush’s path; only Obama is doubling down on it.
I admire your intelligence Ben but your focus is way off.
Also in reply to Matthew taking offense to Rina’s remark about Chelsey’s looks … don’t be offended. She’s fair game just like every one else. We all know I could go through this blog and find many examples of the unsavory comments about more conservative female’s looks. Though personally, I think conservative women hands down are much more attractive than those on the left. I mean come on … look at Sarah Palin and Nancy Pelosi … Michelle Bachmann and Barbara Boxer etc. I rest my case though I could go on.

  3. The Arbourist,

” The more egalitarian a country is the more all of its people benefit from the wealth. ”

Does that apply to North Korea ?

  4. The Arbourist ,

Actually North Korea does very well on the Gini scale of wealth distribution when compared to the United States. So do Greece and Albania . But I am massively guilty of cherry picking . Your country of Canada does well on the scale as do Germany and Sweden .

    • But I am massively guilty of cherry picking .

We all want to our opinion and world view to be right, it is not exclusive to you Mr.Scott. The awareness that this is our tendency though is, in my opinion, is one of the hallmarks of critical thinking. I often have problems with your argumentation Mr.Scott, but today I applaud you for your intellectual honesty in this case.

  5. If the wealthy in America were to hand over their entire paychecks to Uncle Sam, we would still be in debt and unable to meet the constantly inflating entitement programs. View this & try to refute: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=u24nH03NccI&feature=player_embedded%5D
And once Obamacare is fully operational, our $ available for ALL other government programs will be seriously affected.

I do not understand what rainbows you see on the horizon with another four years of a president who has overseen rising debt, rising unemployment, rising energy costs, and rising #s of Americans on the dole.

Are both parties to blame for our national debt crisis? Yes. Let’s go all the way back to FDR–the father of entitlements. But the bottom line is, progressives like Obama are going to take this country to ruin alot faster.

I do not believe the government knows best. The best government is the government that governs least–which is the basis of our constitution. The constitution is in place to protect our personal liberties. Look around. Do you feel like your personal liberties are under protection or attack?

    • You right-wingers live in a fantasy land. The world economy was destroyed by “less government” and abuse by banks. Capitalism can’t survive without regulation.

As far as Obamacare, do you really think insurance companies should be able to cancel your insurance if you get sick?

  6. I don’t think my link above is correct. Please try this:

  7. Reblogged this on Boudica BPI Weblog and commented:

Obama’s solution is to hire government workers who produce nothing but a burden on the taxpayer.
Drive business into the ground with government environmental regulations (no one advocates dirty air, water or environment)
Allow him to gamble with our money (Solyndra among many others)
    Bob A.

  8. It must be horrible going through life so full of hatred.

Well, you ought to know. This whole blog is all about hatred.

    Thank you .
