A Jobless Recovery? Naaaa… The New Jobs Are Just In Other Countries

by Ben Hoffman

A Washington Post/ABC News poll released this morning finds that 44 percent, a plurality, of Americans think the economy is getting worse, rather than staying the same or getting better. With unemployment hovering around 9.6 percent while economic inequality is at levels not seen since the Depression, many Americans feel as if the economy is leaving them behind.

The Wall Street Journal reports today that Corporate America certainly isn’t doing its part to help bring America out of its economic malaise. The paper surveyed employment data by some of the nation’s largest corporations — General Electric, Caterpillar, Microsoft, Wal-Mart, Chevron, Cisco, Intel, Stanley Works, Merck, United Technologies, and Oracle — and found that they cut their workforces by 2.9 million people over the last decade while hiring 2.4 million people overseas.

The paper notes that this is actually a sharp reversal from trends in the late 1990s, when these major companies were creating more jobs in the United States than overseas. Yet by 2001, things took a turn for the worse, and these corporations have been adding more jobs abroad than at home, as is illustrated below

Meanwhile, the anti-American right-wingers defend the outsourcing of our jobs. They defend the deregulation that has allowed speculators to drive up the price of gas. They defend the massive profits by the oil companies. They defend the Wall Street crooks who destroyed our economy. They defend the two Bush wars that are costing us some $3 trillion dollars. They defend the policies that will destroy government jobs, cut spending for education, renewable energy, high-speed rail, and infrastructure upgrades. And then they lie to blame Democrats and lie to defend the Republicans. It makes you wonder how they can sleep at night.

Satan is Christianity’s savior

Without Satan, Christianity would have nothing to scare you with, and without fear, it would cease to exist.

Time to give Christianity the status of terrorist organization

by Ben Hoffman

BRUSSELS, Belgium — A former bishop’s televised admission that he sexually abused two of his nephews caused an uproar in Belgium on Friday, with the prime minister, senior clergy and a prosecutor expressing shock at the way the ex-prelate made light of his offenses.

In an interview that aired Thursday Roger Vangheluwe, the former bishop of Bruges, spoke of his sexual abuse as “a little game,” that involved fondling, but no “rough sex.”

“I was never naked” and the abuse was never about “real sexuality,” said Vangheluwe, 74.

He resigned as bishop in 2010 after admitting he had abused one of his nephews for 13 years – until the boy was 18. In the TV interview aired Thursday, he revealed that he had abused a second nephew “a few times, a couple of times, not for years.”

Brain Volume Reductions Found in Right-Wingers

by Ben Hoffman

Brain scans of right-wingers reveal brain structure differences that may be linked to their anti-intellectualism, according to new research out of the UK.

Neuroscientists used magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) to measure particular regions in the brains of 65 right-wingers as well as 27 people who did not show any symptoms of the disorder.

“Studies such as this are tremendously important in understanding why someone would become a conservative. Only when we are confident that we understand why the disorder develops can we apply this knowledge to the further development and evaluation of treatments.

“The disorder has a devastating impact on families, communities, and our nation as a whole and at the moment, we have few effective treatments,” said Dr. Andy Calder from the University of Cambridge and the Medical Research Council Cognition and Brain Sciences Unit.

The research findings revealed that the neocortex and frontal lobe were severely underdeveloped, and the parietal lobe, amygdala and insula are virtually non-existent in people who are conservative.

The brain differences were apparent no matter the age of onset for the disorder, whether it surfaced during childhood or adolescence.

Significantly, the right-wingers who were most opinionated had the greatest reduction in frontal lobe volume.

Previous studies have shown that the volumes of certain brain structures associated with conservatism have been linked to childhood-onset brain damage. However, adolescence-onset right-wing disorder was typically thought to manifest solely by being hit repeated on the head.

The current research suggests otherwise and offers a possible neurological basis for these challenging problems.

“Changes in grey matter volume in these areas of the brain could explain why right-wingers have difficulties in recognizing facts as apposed to opinions and lies. Further studies are now needed to investigate whether these changes in brain structure are a cause or a consequence of the disorder,” the researchers noted.

“We hope that our results will contribute to existing psychosocial strategies for detecting children at high risk for developing right-wing disorder.”

Religious nuts incite other religious nuts to murder U.N. workers

by Ben Hoffman

MAZAR-I-SHARIF, Afghanistan — Stirred up by a trio of angry mullahs who urged them to avenge the burning of a Koran at a Florida church, thousands of protesters overran the compound of the United Nations in this northern Afghan city, killing at least 12 people, Afghan and United Nations officials said.

The dead included at least seven United Nations workers — four Nepalese guards and three Europeans from Romania, Sweden and Norway — according to United Nations officials in New York. One was a woman. Early reports, later denied by Afghan officials, said that at least two of the dead had been beheaded. Five Afghans were also killed.

The attack was the deadliest for the United Nations in Afghanistan since 11 people were killed in 2009, when Taliban suicide bombers invaded a guesthouse in Kabul. It also underscored the latent hostility toward the nine-year foreign presence here, even in a city long considered to be among the safest in Afghanistan — so safe that American troops no longer patrol here in any numbers.

Unable to find Americans on whom to vent their anger, the mob turned instead on the next-best symbol of Western intrusion — the nearby United Nations headquarters. “Some of our colleagues were just hunted down,” said a spokesman for the United Nations Assistance Mission in Afghanistan, Kieran Dwyer, in confirming the attack.

Here in the U.S., we have religious nuts murdering doctors and blowing up abortion clinics. It’s time we did something about these people who want our country to go back to the Dark Ages. If they can’t accept science, maybe they shouldn’t have full rights as people. They don’t want to accept gay people as full members of society, but maybe they’re the ones who should lose some of their rights.

Religious people should lose some of their standing as humans when it comes to elections. I’m not saying they should lose their voice completely, but they should only be allowed maybe 3/4 of a vote each (which is pretty generous). That would include religious Christians, Muslims, Orthodox Jews, and any cult members. This country would be in a lot better shape. It may be the only way to save our country.
