Religious nuts incite other religious nuts to murder U.N. workers

by Ben Hoffman

MAZAR-I-SHARIF, Afghanistan — Stirred up by a trio of angry mullahs who urged them to avenge the burning of a Koran at a Florida church, thousands of protesters overran the compound of the United Nations in this northern Afghan city, killing at least 12 people, Afghan and United Nations officials said.

The dead included at least seven United Nations workers — four Nepalese guards and three Europeans from Romania, Sweden and Norway — according to United Nations officials in New York. One was a woman. Early reports, later denied by Afghan officials, said that at least two of the dead had been beheaded. Five Afghans were also killed.

The attack was the deadliest for the United Nations in Afghanistan since 11 people were killed in 2009, when Taliban suicide bombers invaded a guesthouse in Kabul. It also underscored the latent hostility toward the nine-year foreign presence here, even in a city long considered to be among the safest in Afghanistan — so safe that American troops no longer patrol here in any numbers.

Unable to find Americans on whom to vent their anger, the mob turned instead on the next-best symbol of Western intrusion — the nearby United Nations headquarters. “Some of our colleagues were just hunted down,” said a spokesman for the United Nations Assistance Mission in Afghanistan, Kieran Dwyer, in confirming the attack.

Here in the U.S., we have religious nuts murdering doctors and blowing up abortion clinics. It’s time we did something about these people who want our country to go back to the Dark Ages. If they can’t accept science, maybe they shouldn’t have full rights as people. They don’t want to accept gay people as full members of society, but maybe they’re the ones who should lose some of their rights.

Religious people should lose some of their standing as humans when it comes to elections. I’m not saying they should lose their voice completely, but they should only be allowed maybe 3/4 of a vote each (which is pretty generous). That would include religious Christians, Muslims, Orthodox Jews, and any cult members. This country would be in a lot better shape. It may be the only way to save our country.

  1. Happy April Fool’s Ben!

You almost had me quoting the Nuremberg Laws…

    😉

  2. Ben – I just saw that story on BBC and they made the point that it got no coverage in US media.

    • The BBC picked up on it already? I just made that post a half-an-hour ago, but that’s good they’ve picked up on it already. They don’t have such a problem with religious Christian nuts in England like we do here, but maybe this will get the ball rolling. Religious nuts should not be given full status as people. Their thought process is more in line with that of a dog.

… oh, you were talking about the U.N. workers being murdered. Never mind. 🙂

  3. NY Times just put it up too. You’re leading hte pack!

  4. Amen on the ASPCA! Anyone that thinks they’re ancestors are monkeys really do need help … and that “thought process” is absolutely incredible. People from monkeys … gawd! I have heard it all!
Moe, this story has been all over the place. One exception, Ben’s headline is a classic; “leading the pack” of ignorance.

  5. They don’t want to accept gay people as full members of society, but maybe they’re the ones who should lose some of their rights.
It’s not a matter of ACCEPTING them; it’s the matter of their telling everyone else they have to hire them in their businesses and/or financing their lives. Is its societies RESPONSIBILITY to pay for their existence??? NO !!! That is their choice, therefore, it is their consequence.

What an excellent argument to strip the churches of their tax exempt status.

Obviously this has been going on for a while, just because someone exercises their right to free speech by burning a Koran doesn’t excuse or give reason to the murders of the UN workers.

Whether it is burning a Koran or submerging a cross in a jar of urine, art is art and if the Muslims can’t deal with it they should turn of their T.V.’s and internet.
