Raise Taxes On The Rich To Avoid Teacher Layoffs!!!

by Ben Hoffman

Everybody is making sacrifices these days, except of course for the rich, who are just getting richer. Wealthy CEOs are cashing in on profits made by shipping our jobs overseas. Wall Street bankers received no-interest loans so the financial markets wouldn’t collapse, and are swimming in cash. Credit card companies are getting cash at near zero interest and are charging many people 29% interest. Stock traders are using computerized trading techniques to scam the market. Exxon earned record profits for the past few years and paid nothing in taxes.

Republicans protected the wealthy from a tax hike when the Bush tax cuts were extended. It’s time we took some action. Our national debt is well over 14 trillion dollars now. Just 11 years ago it was only 5 trillion. It’s sad that we can now say it was “only 5 trillion dollars.” Our country is on its last legs.

People need to take to the streets and force the wealthy to pay their fair share of taxes.

  1. People need to take to the streets and force the wealthy to pay their fair share of taxes.

The wealthy already pay MORE than their fair share.

  2. So if u work hard and go to school to get the job that pays good the govt is just going to take it away in taxes. Where is the motivation to want to get an education and work ur ass off? And these teachers are being irresponsible. The dems are just pathetic cowards who couldn’t even show up to vote despite being ordered by the governor to show up. All those teachers that r protesting having to pay into their pensions just like the rest of the private sector does are not going to have jobs when they realize oh shit… I wasn’t really sick and lied to my employer about it and they fired me. Have fun complaining about ur taxes pay and benefits then.

    • [So if u work hard and go to school to get the job that pays good the govt is just going to take it away in taxes. Where is the motivation to want to get an education and work ur ass off?]

      ur a dmb-fk.

  3. Pino:The wealthy already pay MORE than their fair share.

Wow, libertarian and a apologist for the rich all wrapped into one!

Fantastic notions aside, the Tax Rate should be raised back up to 90% on the rich as it would benefit all levels of society.

Now Pino, don’t even bother with the link, as reality has no place in libertarian ideology.

    Good article Ben. 🙂

    • Fantastic notions aside, the Tax Rate should be raised back up to 90% on the rich as it would benefit all levels of society.

If it were fair, we would either pay the same amount or pay the same percentage. As it stands, some people get PAID to be a citizen while others pay far FAR more than their share of income.

I shudder to think of what you consider fair.

the Tax Rate should be raised back up to 90% on the rich

      shudder

  4. “Tax the rich, feed the poor till there are no rich no more”

These Democrats take their cue from 1960’s hippie songs.

    News flash!
If you go after the rich they will just move away.
You can not benefit the wage earner by attacking the wage payer.

    • [If you go after the rich they will just move away.]

Is that what happened back in the 90s after Clinton raised taxes on the rich? No. We had a booming economy and a balanced budget. Your simple-minded ideological arguments have no basis in fact.

  5. It is a tribute to the propaganda system you guys have in place that you can have the poor so ardently defending the rich. It is really saddening to see that lack of depth and breadth of thought when it comes to making statements like Mr.Caps.

  6. So, a very “rich” person, (Obama defines “rich” as making $250,000) making $500,000 a year would get to take home $50,000. After he gives $450,000 of the money he earned to people like you. Now I see. Yeah, that’s fair.

    • Steve, you have the mental capacity of a tomato plant.

      • Steve, you have the mental capacity of a tomato plant.

        Hi mentalhealth,

Using things like numbers and math, can you show me where Steve is wrong?

        -p

    • Mentalhealth gives Steve too much credit. I’d put him more at the capacity of a rock.

When the tax rate was 90%, that was only on income over 3 million dollars a year. Only your income OVER 3 million dollars was taxed at 90%. The rest of your income was taxed at a much lower rate.

As far as Obama, he’s a complete sellout and might just as well switch parties.
