(RNS) A Florida church with “Islam is of the devil” signs in its front lawn plans to host an “International Burn A Quran Day,” on the ninth anniversary of the Sept. 11 attacks this year.
The Dove World Outreach Center, a non-denominational church in Gainesville, has marked the date in previous years with protests against Islam. The church holds protests on other issues, such as homosexuality, same-sex marriage, and abortion.
Pastor Terry Jones said members of the church plan to be at the Gainesville City Hall on Aug. 2 to protest the election of the city’s openly gay mayor. Church-state groups had previously accused the church of illegal politicking for its “No Homo Mayor” signs.
Jones, who is also the author of a book titled “Islam is of the Devil,” said protests are key to the mission of his church.
“We feel, as Christians, one of our jobs is to warn,” said Jones.
The goal of these and other protests are to give Muslims an opportunity to convert, he said.On May 10, a pipe bomb exploded in the Islamic Center of Northwest Florida in Jacksonville. No worshippers were hurt, but Kilic said the planned burning of Qurans could escalate tensions in the area.

Pointing out the truth to Ben must really sting for him. Maybe he should give more thought before trotting out these kinds of stories.

“They believe that some guy about 2,000 years ago was born to a virgin mother and rose from the dead three days…”
I can’t speak to the validity of their faith, but that part of the sentence expresses my faith quite well. The bible says that the gospel (that Jesus lived a sinless life and willingly died on the cross for sinners and was resurrected, is a “stumbling block to Jews and folly to Gentiles.” I don’t know which you are in, but surely one of those two groups.

Does anyone get all riled up at the hate directed at Jews? FBI “hate crime” stats,
Of the 1,732 victims of anti-religious hate crimes:
66.1 percent were targeted because of an offender’s
anti-Jewish bias.7.5 percent were victims because of an anti-Islamic bias.
5.1 percent were victims because of an anti-Catholic bias.
3.6 percent were victims because of an anti-Protestant bias.0.8 percent were targeted because of an anti-Atheist/Agnostic bias.
2.8 percent were victims because of a bias against other religions (anti-other religion).
4.0 percent were victims because of a bias against groups of individuals of varying religions (anti-multiple religions, group).
This frenzy to protect the Muslims seems disproportionate compared to the silence about hate directed towards Jews.

So many people talk about the hate…where and when did Jesus, or Mohamed say Hate thy neighbor. Kill before you are killed, or strike fear into the heart of your neighbor. The Qu’oran, the Bible, the Torah, and just about EVERY religious Holy text teaches one main theme. LOVE EACH OTHER AS FAMILY AND FRIENDS!

Jesus: “If any man come to me, and hate not his father, and mother, and wife, and children, and brethren, and sisters, yea, and his own life also, he cannot be my disciple.” (Luke 14:26)
The old testament: Do not I hate them, O LORD, that hate thee? and am not I grieved with those that rise up against thee? I hate them with perfect hatred: I count them mine enemies.” (Psalms 139:19-22)
The qu’ran;
39 times in chapter 2 alone does it mention burning nonbelievers, I won’t even bother quoting it as someone who thinks the qu’ran teaches only love has never read a sentence of it and should not be disseminating his ignorance. The main theme of every succesful religion is violence and subversion, not love. This is necessary for propogation as a peaceful religion will quickly go out of fashion. However, a religion that punishes leaving with the death penalty and hell fire for eternity can remain popular for thousands of years.

Islam is a religion of peace, anyone who says anything bad about it is an islamophobic bigot!
I’ll show you opinion polls that prove how peaceful it is and how misrepresented muslims have been in the media.
The 5 least peaceful countries on Earth are Islamic, even though the statistics didnt take violence against women and children into account.
Gallup survey can’t find a single British Muslim who approves of homosexuality.
68% of american muslims support the death penalty against homosexuals.
Only 70% of muslims in uk against suicide bombing.
A quarter of British Muslims sympathise with the motives of the London bombers.
Not a single mosque in America accepts homosexuals.
WOOPS!
