Thank God. Louisianians Can Now Bring Their Guns To Church.

by Ben Hoffman

Gov. Bobby Jindal has signed into law one of the more controversial bills from the recent legislative session, one allowing guns to be carried into houses of worship.

Including the “gun-in-church” bill, House Bill 1272 by Rep. Henry Burns, R-Haughton, Jindal has signed into law 940 of the 1,067 bills the Legislature sent him, vetoed 12, and used his pen to line-item spending measures in four different budget bills.

Burns’ bill would authorize persons who qualified to carry concealed weapons having passed the training and background checks to bring them to churches, mosques, synagogues or other houses of worship as part of a security force.

I guess they don’t have much confidence in the Lord protecting them. Really, the only ones who are in danger are the abortion doctors, so at least they’ll be able to protect themselves now. And it’s just a matter of time before some religious nut attacks a Mosque, so the Muslims will now be able to arm themselves.

  1. Amen to the new law.

  2. Hmmmmmm. If George Tiller had had a gun, he may have been alive today. Too bad the murdered babies he killed in the womb didn’t have little Glocks or Smith&Wesson’s surgically implanted so they could have shot the forceps out of his hand. Hey George, tell Ted congratulations on being sober for the last several months.

    • Too bad the murdered babies he killed in the womb didn’t

Too bad you do not keep your fatuous opinion about the reproductive rights of women to yourself.

little Glocks or Smith&Wesson’s surgically implanted so they could have shot the forceps out of his hand.

Anti-choice, and pro-gun. Ahhh, truly a protector of life.

  3. Mr. Hoffman,

” I guess they don’t have much confidence in the Lord protecting them. ”

The Lord protects those who protect themselves.

” Really, the only ones who are in danger are the abortion doctors, so at least they’ll be able to protect themselves now. ”

    Of course.

” And it’s just a matter of time before some religious nut attacks a Mosque, so the Muslims will now be able to arm themselves. ”

Nuts and criminals always find ways to get weapons . Now the everyone else can defend themselves . We never get the stories about the lives guns have saved .

  4. I saw this a while back, and wondered…

If someone of Islamic faith is visiting a Christian church, are they allowed to bring their gun?

  5. If someone is going to shoot up a Church, having a permit is not a deciding factor. It may be a factor as to whether someone can shoot back. Imagine how many lives would have been saved if someone would have been armed when that Korean kid shot up that College a couple of years ago.

    • [Imagine how many lives would have been saved if someone would have been armed when that Korean kid shot up that College a couple of years ago.]

Imagine how many more students would have been shot by drunken students.

      • [Imagine how many lives would have been saved if someone would have been armed when that Korean kid shot up that College a couple of years ago.]

        This, one can reasonably deduce.

[Imagine how many more students would have been shot by drunken students.]

This, is sheer fantasy and void of any evidence or logic.

      • [This, is sheer fantasy and void of any evidence or logic.]

You’ve obviously never been a drunken student. 🙂

  6. Mr. Hoffman,

” Imagine how many more students would have been shot by drunken students ”

Considering that 57 were shot and 32 died, I doubt that drunken shooters are as big a problem. If just one of those 57 had not been disarmed by a bunch of well meaning idiots. The law of unintended consequences.

In May a back packer shot and killed a bear that attacked a fellow hiker in Denali National Park in Alaska. I believed they just recently changed the law to allow guns to be carried in National Parks. I suppose drunks kill more people with guns than bears do in National Parks ? 🙂

    • What if we allowed bears to carry guns? What then?

    • In May a back packer shot and killed a bear that attacked a fellow hiker in Denali National Park in Alaska.

Alan, you said you were not much of a camper, so I am not sure you get an opinion here.

I much prefer the way they handle it in Canada (or did last time I was there). In Canada, if a bear eats you – tough luck – you were in the bear’s territory, you knew the risks, and it caught up with you.

In the US, we shoot the bear.

  7. hippieprof,

” Alan, you said you were not much of a camper, so I am not sure you get an opinion here. ”

I hope against hope that you are not in favor of denying me free speech. Only a higher power ( Mr. Hoffman ) can do that. As far as I know these were hikers, back packers it says, could be campers. I do hike. I do take my rifle for a walk in the woods every deer season. Sometimes I even defend my life against white tail deer. I am just not real big on sleeping in the woods, though it’s happened 9 or ten times.

” I much prefer the way they handle it in Canada (or did last time I was there). In Canada, if a bear eats you – tough luck – you were in the bear’s territory, you knew the risks, and it caught up with you. ”

You mean the Government of Canada will let a Grizzly eat me ? Well Canada is not looking as good as I thought. Well then I agree with Henry Waxman ( ugliest man in Congress )let them keep their extra oil. I’d rather buy Arab oil than take more of their tar sands oil.

You go to Canada and feed the bears. I’ll hike the woods of Pennsylvania and feed the lyme ticks .

  8. “…into law one of the more controversial bills from the recent legislative session, one allowing guns to be carried into houses of worship…”

Explain to me how this law is controversial?

  9. Mr. Hoffman,

” Did you ever see the movie Grizzly Man? He pushed his luck a little too far with the bears up in Alaska. ”

I saw it a long time ago. Didn’t they shoot the bear? I hear they would not have shot the bear in Canada. 🙂

  10. Mr. Hoffman,

” I don’t believe they shot the bear since it was in a wilderness area. ”

I looked it up. The bear was a previously tagged bear #141. The rescue team had to shoot him, because not being Canadian, they did not want to end up inside of the bear. Human remains were found in the dead bear. Another younger bear was also killed, that threatened the team. Here is the story.

    • What a way to go. Last time I went backpacking, I heard a bear grunt from up the cliff near where I was camping and later I saw a big pile of bear scat (poop). Bears in Colorado rarely attack people, though.

  11. I will now tell you 2 tales, actually 3. In Westchester County, New York in the town of Rye a 3 year old girl was attacked by Coyotes. A few days before a 6 year old girl a few miles away was attacked by Coyotes. The victims and the Coyotes all survived. This was late June.

Now in Texas the Governor was jogging and had a puppy with him. A coyote attacked the puppy and the Governor shot the Coyote. I do not have the date.
