Our Founding Fathers Rebelled Against Conservative Ideas

[We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal]

The Boston Tea Party was a revolt against England’s tax cuts for the British East India Company that gave them an unfair advantage in the American colonies. Recently, the Robert’s court, in their Citizens United decision, declared corporations are persons and can spend unlimited amounts of money on elections. All men are not equal if corporations are declared to be persons.

[that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness.]

Life and the pursuit of happiness required health. Conservatives are against assuring affordable health coverage or even mandating insurance companies pay for treatment of the insured. Conservatives also want to force women to have children they don’t want or can’t afford to take care of. Conservatives are also against helping people go to college. The old adage “teach a man to fish” is a progressive ideal, not conservative.

[That to secure these rights, Governments are instituted among Men, deriving their just powers from the consent of the governed,]

Laws are made by Congress, which is elected by the people. The House represents the will of the people and its members author bills representative of their constituents. (The Senate is another story.) Some of those bills recently authored were the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009 and the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act of 2010. Conservatives try to claim that these bills are unconstitutional and have showed violent opposition to their passage, but the majority of the population favored reform. Conservatives would rather have an authoritarian right-wing government that one that is representative.

[Prudence, indeed, will dictate that Governments long established should not be changed for light and transient causes;]

Conservatives impeached our popular Democratic president for lying about getting a BJ. Talk about a light and transient cause! They hate our representative democracy and do everything they can to bring down administrations when a Democrat gets elected. The conservative Supreme Court justices handed the 2000 election to Bush — an act that violated everything our founding fathers fought for.

[But when a long train of abuses and usurpations, pursuing invariably the same Object evinces a design to reduce them under absolute Despotism,]

Conservatives would like nothing more than to have a despotic government, as long as it was right-wing. Many would also accept a plutocracy. They worship the wealthy and favor rules that allows the wealthy to get even more wealthy while destroying the middle class. It’s the middle class that is a threat to their sense of self-worth, not the wealthy, and conservatism is all about emotions.

Our founding fathers were progressives. They sought a better life for all and for a government of the people for the benefit of the people. They wanted our country to be the best it can be.

    You have over simplified this to the point that it is untrue. The British East India Company was the kind of Crony Capitalist Corporation that would make Barak Obama proud.It was far more than about tax cuts for the Corporation. It was more about whether Parliament could legally directly tax the Colonists, since the Colonists were not represented in Parliament.

    Pursuit of Happiness does not mean that the Government assures you of happiness. It does not mean the Government gives you health insurance. It does not mean the Government wipes your butt. It does not mean the Government takes care of YOUR responsibilities. It means it does not get in your way as YOU provide them for YOUR family.

    Except in rape cases, these women voluntarily created life. How about we let parents kill the born children they don’t want or can’t take care of ? Is a newborn much different than a fetus?

      Sorry, that’s not true. It was in protest of the Tea Act passed in 1773 that allowed the E. India Company to undercut the small tea companies in the colonies.

      As with most conservative policies, the Tea Act hurt the little guy in favor of large corporations. The Boston Tea Party was a revolt against that.

    Why do you always leave important information out of your statements? Ever hear ” the truth, the whole truth, and nothing but the truth, so help me God ” ? Lying under oath is an Impeachable Offense! It is not a
    ” light and transient cause! “.

    • That’s such bullshit. Why was he testifying under oath about his sex life? Because conservatives were trying destroy his presidency, which is a treasonous offense and goes against everything our founding fathers fought for.

    Do you read your own material? This is in your opening statement.

    If that does not refer to abortion, what does it mean?

    I just do not know where to start. A President is on duty 24/7. While he holds the office, any conduct he engages in that brings discredit to the office of the Presidency “is” relevant. If he had been a Republican you guys would have gotten him out of office. At the very least he was guilty of sexual harassment of a subordinate. I thought you guys were the Party of protecting women from such men?

    The Senate allowed him to stay in office. I disagree, but procedure was followed.

    As far as Conservatives trying to destroy a Presidency, you really have your gall acting as if this is novel. You guys destroyed Nixon, not because of what he did, but because you could. Either party will impeach the other Party’s President, at the right opportunity. Prove me wrong !

    Treason? Calm down. You forget, your guys have all of the power in the country. Even if we take back either House in November, your guys can still royally shaft America during the lame duck session, in order to take your revenge on an ungrateful nation. I expect no less from the pack of hyenas currently in office.
