Cowardice and Politics

by Ben Hoffman

To know what is right and not to do it is the worst cowardice.

~Confucius

The Democrats are cowards and the Republicans don’t know what’s right. So where does that leave us? Up shit creek without a paddle, that’s where.

  1. And until the boat tips over, we’re unlikely to act.

  2. Mr. Hoffman,

So far Conservatives have been more accurate predicting the future of Obama’s Presidency than you Liberals. We predicted that Obama would fail to turn around the economy. We predicted the jobless rate would stay high. What do Socialists know about creating real jobs ?

We predicted that the public would figure that the man is all hot air.

  3. Ms. Holland,

” I’m sure you consider Bill Clinton a Socialist – he created 22 million jobs ”

He had a lot of help. He also abandoned his socialist principles, especially on things like welfare reform, and green energy. Of course he did not have a lot to abandon.

In fact by releasing oil from the strategic reserve, he kept energy prices low, encouraged consumption, and thus economic activity. Amazing how ungreen sh!t works really well.

    • There’s just no end to the exceptions to the rules with you Alan. If a Democrat got it done, the credit isn’t his. If a Republican got it done, the credit is all his.

      This is old.

    • [In fact by releasing oil from the strategic reserve, he kept energy prices low,]

You don’t think that maybe oil selling for as little as $10 a barrel during that time might have had something to do with it? Clinton should have been filling the reserves during that time when oil was so cheap.

With Bush we had a perfect storm of bad policies. Our global trade policies created booming economies in India and China, which greatly increased their demand for oil. Bush was filling the reserves when prices were high. Speculators were driving oil prices up, thanks to the Commodities Futures Modernization Act of 2000. There was also the popularity of the SUV, which get crappy gas mileage and created more demand.

  4. Mr. Hoffman,

” There was also the popularity of the SUV, which get crappy gas mileage and created more demand. ”

I am always amazed at how much liberals hate suvs, except that so many liberals drive them. 🙂 You don’t drive one do you ?

” You don’t think that maybe oil selling for as little as $10 a barrel during that time might have had something to do with it? Clinton should have been filling the reserves during that time when oil was so cheap. ”

Believe it or not I totally agree with you. But keeping oil cheap kept the economy humming along. It thankfully killed the green economy. It also meant that even perjury could not get Clinton removed from office. You tell me one Republican who could have survived that.

As far as Bush filling the reserve, time will tell when that will be needed. Probably during President Palin’s first term. I doubt that the economy will rebound enough during President Obama’s remaining 3 years in office, for oil to be a serious problem. The world is awash in oil as it was in 1986.

  5. [I am always amazed at how much liberals hate suvs, except that so many liberals drive them.]

I didn’t say I hated SUVs. You just made that up. I said they created more demand for oil.

[It also meant that even perjury could not get Clinton removed from office. You tell me one Republican who could have survived that.]

Bush survived invading a sovereign nation that was of no threat to us and lying about it to Congress. (Among other treasonous things)

  6. Bush,

” Bush survived invading a sovereign nation that was of no threat to us and lying about it to Congress. (Among other treasonous things) ”

Where is the evidence that Bush lied to Congress? The evidence was that Saddam had WMDs. A lot of that was Hussein himself bluffing to his neighbors. Ohhhh, by the way, after the first Gulf War, we had the right to go back in and kick Saddam Hussein’s butt any time he violated the terms of the peace. The man did that pretty much continuously for years. The 2 faced Europeans did nothing. Clinton did nothing effective about it.

As your hero Obama is finding out with Iran, if you do nothing to enforce your demands on evil countries, they play you for a sucker. You Democrats are exactly like the British and French wimps of 1934-35. Forget even Chamberlin’s appeasement later on. If France and Britain had invaded Germany when Hitler first began violating the Versailles treaty, millions of lives would have been saved. Hitler had enlarged his armed forces above the treaty allowed limits. Look it up.

All Bush did was enforce the terms of the peace treaty from the first gulf war. Now to borrow Obama’s logic of saved jobs, I say that Bush definitely saved millions of lives by eliminating the Iraq threat before Saddam became strong again.

Now do me a big favor. When you attack my arguments, attack the individual points instead of your usual hatchet job of just declaring everything I wrote to be false.

  7. Mr. Hoffman,

    ” It’s all just right-wing spin. 🙂 ”

Just keep telling yourself that. My points on Iran are right. There is only one thing that can make Obama look like a genius, and it could happen no thanks to him. That is if the opposition can actually win in the streets. If it does not happen, Iran will become nuclear. The Israelis will try to take out Iran’s nukes and the whole middle east will erupt.

Or do you think Obama’s threats will work on Iran, or do you even care ?
