Clifford May: Wacko Extraordinaire, Yet Treated Like A Legitimate Expert

by Ben Hoffman

I don’t get it. I’ve seen May interviewed on many respectable programs including The News Hour. He never seems to be prepared, doesn’t seem to have any rational responses to questions, and he’s obviously a right-wing extremist. This is his solution for Guantanamo:

A Bipartisan Proposal [Cliff May]

Step (1): Return all Gitmo detainees to Yemen.

Step (2): Use Predator missiles to strike the baggage-claim area 20 minutes after they arrive.

Just an idea.

May used to be the associate editor of the Rocky Mountain News and he seemed fairly sane back then. But about 15 years ago, he moved to Washington, D.C. and he seems to have completely lost it. That makes him well qualified to write for the NRO, but he shouldn’t be considered to be a legitimate newsman or “expert” in any field, except for maybe right-wing wackiness.

  1. Here’s apparently the way to get an MIT professor to support your health care plan: pay him for it!
