Panic In Right-Wing America

Rush Limbaugh was rushed to the hospital yesterday after suffering chest pains. He was listed in serious condition last night but appears to be okay. Millions of right-wingers breathed a sigh of relief.

Right-wingers, incapable of forming their own opinions, look to Rush to tell them what to do and think. While Glenn Beck has recently become the leader of many dito-heads – the teabaggers, for example — many still look to Limbaugh to fill the gap between their ears.

Without pundits like Limbaugh, Beck, Hannity, and O’Reilly, right-wingers would still be angry and scared, but they wouldn’t have talking points to direct at liberals and would probably be just blogging grunts and groans.

Many Republican politicians also get their opinions from Limbaugh, which makes him a very powerful presence in America. Republicans are the party of polarization, not reconciliation. But without him, Republicans might actually decide to work with Democrats to make our country better.

    Too true. My brother has been listening to the fat ignorant one for almost 20 years; he eventually came to believe that the rest of his family were enemies. We no longer speak. It’s tragic and I think it goes on all over the country. I miss my brother and goddamn Rush Limbaugh.

      I was a right-winger until the early 90s but I didn’t listen to Limbaugh because I knew the things he said were lies or distortions. I was more against the political correctness of the times, which I saw as being bad for our country.

        I was born moral. I was a liberal type person in the 80’s, but I sing well, and my morals didnt mesh with them. I got turned down for MANY parts in NYC, S.F., just because they are way too political.

        In my opinion, I feel America is just all over the place, no one goal that has any unity. It is def. not the America I grew up with.

        As far as ‘liberals’, as I said, I dont really have an issue with the charitable type. I am like that myself, but the FAR left is all messed up. Kids are messed up, parents are messed up, and I totally believe that the far left has screwed this nation up royally.
        The conservatives who SHOULD have represented values represent zero.
        “Christians” that loved the Jewish people are now viscious anti-semites. So, none can be trusted, and only G-d is the one that I can trust at this point.

      The level of discourse is disparaging to say the least. Rational debate of issues has been on the political and academic back-burner so long it seems like it is almost a forgotten art.

    Beck is an historian. As for liberals, in general, I like real ones that are charitable with their OWN money and not mine, like Bush and Obla bla.

    NONE of these people are right enough for me. I want America as it wasz in the 1950’s. Pretty, clean and without all of the p.c. speak.

      That’s the glamorized version of the 50s. There was widespread racism, antisemitism, and don’t forget the fear of communism with the McCarthy era witch hunts. We had a good president in Eisenhower, though.

        There might not have been much racism in NYC, but it was pretty widespread throughout the rest of the state. I grew up in a small town in NY and there was a lot of racism.

    It’s very difficult to read Ben’s posts as 99% of them are just like this: “Most do. I have yet to find any that look to legitimate news sources for their news”.
    As ALWAYS not a single factual back-up. Continually railing on Beck and Limbaugh … but never offering facts to discount what they, especially Beck claims. I never listen to either on the radio; (I actually have a full-time job, inspite of his ‘lowness’ Obama. Anyone with any intelligence can look at this blog and discover that very little of it contains actual facts. Blathering that Reagan and Bush caused the financial crises … gawd, how freaking naive can one get.

        Straight up, they told me;

    You guys really kick a man when he is down. I bet you’d throw a party if Mr. Limbaugh had terminal cancer.

    As far as Rush telling people what to think, that is simply untrue. No one is forced to tune in to talk radio. Unlike the brain washing that goes on in public schools and some Minnesota Colleges. People listen to Rush because he echos their already firmly held beliefs.

    He clarifies what they already know and points out the lies of Obama’s lapdog media.

      The meaning of conservatism has changed. It used to mean cautious and resistant to change. Now it means reckless and aggressive foreign policy, extreme nationalism, and doing anything for the party, no mater what the consequence to the country. It means not working with Democrats no matter what. The only thing Republicans are interested in when we have a Democratic president is bringing down that presidency. That is un-American. Republicans would like to see our country attacked so they can blame Democrats for being “weak,” even though they are the ones who are weak and scared. Conservatism has become an ideology of emotion, and overly emotional people are generally irrational. Conservatism is the ideology of the addle-minded.

    The way Democrats used every setback in Afghanistan and Iraq to score political points and make us lose 2 wars. The way Democrats worked with Bush over 8 years. 🙂

    Waiting to be attacked before taking action has caused more wars and death historically. Examples.:

    1905 Russia suffers defeat at the hands of Japan by not attacking first during Russo-Japanese war.

    1939 Great Britain and France lose opening phase of WW2 by not taking out Germany early.

    1941 Russia loses opening phase of WW2 by waiting for Hitler to attack first.

    1941 Dec.7, US loses all of it’s Pacific Fleet Battleships by waiting for Japan to attack first.

    Sept. 11, 2001 The US suffers it’s worst terrorist attack by not being at war with terrorists who were at war with us.

    2009, Barak Obama becomes President. Goes around the world projecting weakness by apologizing for American greatness. Believes he can talk the Iranians in to peace like Chamberlin did with Adolf Hitler. Effects so far, one near miss on Christmas day.

    Rabbi Meir Kahane did no such thing. He was banned from Israel, they did not want the right wing taking over and then he was assassinated by Al Sayid Nosair.

    Oh, the ‘tolerance-fariness’ crap does not work in Israel, Kahane was right, the Knesset was wrong, and had we Kahane in Israel as a P.M., there would be * NO * American foreign aid.

    Islamic-Militant nations do not understand ‘tolerance’ they only understand strength. So, Israel screwed up bigtime, by banning Kahane, and most leaders know that now, except self-hating Turi-Kartas, and J-street.

    You caught me in a typo error. I should have added the word “trying” as in Democrats trying to make us lose two wars. Of course, I was half right wasn’t I? Your boy Senator Harry Reid said that the Iraq War was lost in 2007.

    Since you brought up WW2 and FDR, how about those internment camps for Japanese Americans? Wait, wait I got a better one. The military trials and executions of Nazi saboteurs in 1942. How very unObama like of old Franklin. He outBushed Bush. I think we should proclaim him an honorary Republican, at least as a war time President.

      We “won the war” on May 1, 2003, but we beat a country that was weak and of no real threat to us, so I wouldn’t claim that as much of a victory. We’ve been occupiers of Iraq ever since, in which time we’ve lost nearly 4,000 troops, about a trillion dollars, and our standing in world affairs. I’m not sure what we’ve won.

        Ben is absolutely correct. The last number of years we’ve been in Iraq as ‘guests’ of the Iraqis – whether they want us or not. Some do. Some don’t. But the ‘war’ is over.

    Please do not confuse the facts. I listed two separate un liberal things that FDR did. The first was the Japanese American internment camps, which I can understand under the pressure of war, but that history has judged to be wrong. President George W. Bush did nothing of that kind. Please do not say he did.

    The second was very different. Roosevelt had military courts convened to try Nazi saboteurs that had landed from German Submarines. The poor Nazi spies were not treated Obamalike and given rights and lawyers. They were found guilty and some were executed. And they had not even killed anyone.

    This is what I compared to Bush’s military tribunals of captured enemy combatants and terrorists. In fact FDR would roll over in his grave and bite his cigarette holder in half if he could see what your hero Obama is giving these poor terrorists in terms of Constitutional rights.

        Well, actually if it your assertion, then it is up to you to prove it. Since God does not exist (and is irrelevant), it is very hard to ‘kick him out of anywhere’.

        Hmmm…in the US abortion was made legal in 1973 by the landmark Roe vs Wade court ruling. The courts, in a rational decision gave much needed reproductive freedom to women. Not a lot of god kicking, just women gaining freedom, which is a good thing.

        As far as murder, gangs, rape, low-grades, slutty-girls are concerned they all existed before and will continue to exist in society for the near future.

        The positive change was a move toward a more secular rational culture. This trend seems to be reversed of late with the rise of evangelical christianity in America, a worrisome trend to say the least.

Our great grandmothers in the morning gave birth to our grandparents, sobered up their men folk and made them lunch, and then plowed the lower forty acres before making supper in the evening, maybe skinning a buffalo or two before bedtime.

      I was commenting on your assertions as they provide more than enough evidence as to which spectrum of beliefs you abide by. You are in no need of being ‘branded’ by me or any other external authority.

      I am not anti woman. I am anti modern woman.

      So you are not against women, just the majority women that are alive right now. Gotcha.

      Your modern American woman sits around eating bon bons and watching Oprah, while hubby drags himself off to an early grave in the salt mines of corporate America.

      Ah, now this is a luscious strawman riddled feast, with the bonus of not really being in touch with reality. Firstly, generalizing about any class of people is hazardous policy at best. I could generalize that most right-wingers are intellectually constipated. But it is not a fair, nor charitable, statement to make because certainly not all right-wingers suffer from intellectual constipation.

      Therefore, the statement that “our modern American woman sits around eating bon bons and watching Oprah” is at best an inaccurate generalization about women and how they spend time. I think a more accurate generalization would look something like this:

      Both parents slaving away for the corporate state because living wages have been actively neglected by corporations in pursuit of a bigger bottom line. The above statement is closer to reality than the first.

      But interestingly what seems apparent is the strawman argument being set up; first the romanticized version of hardworking ‘pioneering’ women versus the lazy modern woman with apparently nothing better to than eat chocolate and watch TV.

      What comes across is that misrepresentation that all modern women are lazy and entitled. And with that you lower the boom:“With all that, these women are all really pissed off all the time.”

      How dare these indolent modern women complain about their situation. They have it easy.

      Women are still considered the sex class in Western society, they are systematically discriminated against, undervalued and objectified for the needs of men and the Patriarchy.

      Romantically pining for a era when women where considered less than human does not strike me as a particularly progressive notion.
