Goobers Win Gubernatorial Races – Dems Pick Up Another Seat In The House (Part 1)

by Ben Hoffman

Chris Christie was elected governor of “NEW JERSEY!!?” in a close election yesterday. In a recent poll, when New Jersey right-wingers were asked if Obama was the anti-Christ, 60% said either yes or not sure. That gives a bit of insight into the intellect of the people of New Jersey.

So just who is this Chris Christie? His wife is an investment banker — you know, like the kind that brought down our economy. He was a lobbyist for New Jersey’s electric and gas industry from 1999 – 2001 and pushed for deregulation. Yeah, that was a good idea. Remember Enron? He lobbied for the Securities Industry Association to block the inclusion of securities fraud under the state’s Consumer Fraud Act. He was one of the U.S. attorney appointments as part of the Bush administration’s politicization of our justice department. Not only that, but he is related to Tino Fiumara: a major figure of the Genovese crime family in New Jersey. His brother, Todd Christie, was involved in Wall Street fraud. The attorney assigned to the case, David Kelley, received a multi-million dollar no-bid contract from Chris and surprisingly decided not to prosecute Todd. Three others were indicted, as were eleven other traders. Christie faced censure for other acts of cronyism and corruption.

Christie used a clip from Monty Python in a campaign video without permission but claimed he didn’t realize that was copyright infringement. He’s either a liar or a completely incompetent lawyer.

Great choice, New Jersey.

  1. The fact that Christie could win says how bad and unpopular Corzine was.

  2. [He’s either a liar or a completely incompetent lawyer]

I’ll go with completely incompetent lawyer.

    Plus, they hated Corzine.

  3. Moe’s right. From everything I’ve heard, Gov. Corzine was hated in his state and was a very ineffective governor. Also the Democratic candidate in Virginia apparently ran an idiotic campaign. These are really two isolated incidents.

I’m more impressed with the fact that the Democrats picked up an extra House seat because the Republican part is imploding. The Republicans still haven’t found their identity, and these two gubernatorial races notwithstanding, I still don’t see a positive outcome for them in 2010. There’s no cohesive message coming from the Republicans right now, on any issue, except that “Obama’s wrong and bad and evil and a Socialist. Oh, and a Nazi, because Nazis and Socialists are the same thing.”

  4. Good stuff.

    Thanks for sending along.

Will read semi-religiously from now on.

  5. Sleepygirl: Didn’t Dems pick up two seats? Besides NY I can’t remember the other one now, but that was the story – two more seats in Congress.

And let us not forget that Corzine headed up Goldman Sacks before Paulson. Bet they had sleep overs.

  6. Yeah, you’re right, Moe. I didn’t pay much attention to the race in CA, but I had heard that the Democrat won.

And I love the image of Corzine and Paulson having a sleepover. Do ya think they did each other’s hair and had pillow fights? Tee hee!

  7. Ms. Holland,

I do not know if you’ve been around as long as I’ve been, but there is a rhythm to American politics. Each party has power for only so long. Although Democrats did hold the House of Representatives for many decades, post ww2. This theory holds true more with the Presidency.

Once either party gets power it becomes difficult to keep it’s coalitions happy. Although I must say that your Democrats are doing a cracker jack job paying off their supporters with the porkulus bill. On the other hand the party out of power can unite all of their various factions against the powers that be.

The Governors that Republicans picked up reflect that reality. The House seat your Jackasses picked up reflect special circumstances, such as the incompetence of the Republicans putting up a Rino Scozzafava and giving her a ton of money.
