GOING ROUGE: Sarah Palin – An American Nightmare

by Ben Hoffman

Authors of The Nation have written a book about Sarah Palin and it goes on sale next month.

The most honest, revealing account of the Palin story to appear this fall? You betcha!

Sarah Palin has many faces: hockey mom, fundamentalist Christian, sex symbol, Republican ideologue, fashion icon, “maverick” populist. But, above all, Palin has become one thing: an American obsession that just won’t go away. Edited by two senior editors at The Nation magazine, this sharp, smart, up-to-the-minute book examines Palin’s quirky origins in Wasilla, Alaska, her spectacular rise to the effective leadership of the Republican Party, and the nightmarish prospect of her continuing to dominate the nation’s political scene.

  1. Why do you lefties hate Sarah Palin? What did she ever do to you?

  2. I can’t wait to buy this book! 🙂

  3. Mr. Hoffman,

You said “She helped polarize our nation.” , after I asked why you lefties hate Governor Palin. That is the most non specific piece of baloney I’ve read today. You could have written that about any politician on your side or mine.

Also it is totally untrue. Governor Palin merely represents one end of an existing polarized political universe. She campaigned on her political values the same as any politician does.

If you were to be honest you would have to admit that you hate her for her traditional values and not anything she has ever done that affected you.

    • No, I don’t consider lying, fear mongering, hate mongering, declaring only people who think like her to be the “real Americans, and crazy religious beliefs “traditional values.” People like her are destroying our country.

  4. Mr. Hoffman,

To quote the great Ronald Reagan, ” There you go again.” How about specifics. What lies, what fear mongering, what hate mongering, what real Americans comment, and why exactly are her religious values crazy?

Besides, freedom of religion is in the Constitution. Wait, wait, you and Obama think that was written by a bunch of racist white guys, right?

Exactly how are Sarah Palin and people like her destroying your country? I’d like to know cause I may decide to stay awhile, at least until Lord Obama abdicates or loses his reelection.

    • The “great” Ronald Reagan? Puh-leeze. Reagan’s war on the middle class is a large part of what has destroyed our country. That plus the enormous debt he left us.

      • LOL.

You complain about Reagen’s debt yet happily give Obama and this congress a pass for spending more money than a half dozen or so administrations combined. Some points from the Heritage foundation.

■President Bush expanded the federal budget by a historic $700 billion through 2008. President Obama would add another $1 trillion.
■President Bush began a string of expensive financial bailouts. President Obama is accelerating that course.
■President Bush created a Medicare drug entitlement that will cost an estimated $800 billion in its first decade. President Obama has proposed a $634 billion down payment on a new government health care fund.
■President Bush increased federal education spending 58 percent faster than inflation. President Obama would double it.
■President Bush became the first President to spend 3 percent of GDP on federal antipoverty programs. President Obama has already increased this spending by 20 percent.
■President Bush tilted the income tax burden more toward upper-income taxpayers. President Obama would continue that trend.

■President Bush presided over a $2.5 trillion increase in the public debt through 2008. Setting aside 2009 (for which Presidents Bush and Obama share responsibility for an additional $2.6 trillion in public debt), President Obama’s budget would add $4.9 trillion in public debt from the beginning of 2010 through 2016.

      • Those “points” smell from having been pulled out of someone’s ass.

  5. Mr. Hoffman,

A personal question. Do you spend more money than you make? Congress does? The Congress of Reagan’s terms just could not restrain themselves. Kinda like today, huh? Over spending, not under taxing has always been America’s problem. Reagan’s military build up was not the cause of the deficits. Reagan’s tax cuts were not the cause of the deficits. It was as it is now the liberal’s pork diet. Buyin them votes ain’t cheap.
