Vile Nazis Wanted Affordable Health Care For All (or so right-wingers seem to believe)

by Ben Hoffman

Here’s the latest video of an uninformed right-winger who somehow got the notion that a government run health care program is somehow akin to Nazism.

The reality is: Hitler gained power by the use of propaganda to win the support of the uneducated, unintelligent, and gullible — the same type of people who are comparing Obama to Hitler. Barney Frank, who is Jewish, put this woman in her place, but these people are getting out of control.

  1. As a former “conservative,” I find the level of ignorance, and rampant demagoguery, endemic to the right-wing to be both nauseating and frightening. If you have not seen Jon Stewarts’ the Daily Show segment on “Glenn Beck’s Operation,” aired August 13 and viewable on line at thedailyshow.com, you owe it to yourself to do so. It is just an example of the complete lack of integrity that he, and his cohorts, possess. We need more blogs like yours.

  2. The lady at the town hall meet with Barny Frank is not a known “right-winger” as you would call. She is in fact a Lyndon LaRouche Democrat supporter and a well known activist in her community. So I guess Mr. Frank was telling off one of his own.

  3. …but it’s OK to depict Bush as Hitler? It’s not so nice being on the other side of the insults is it.

  4. The reality is: Hitler and Obama both promoted fascism.

“Fascism should more properly be called corporatism because it is the merger of state and corporate power.” – Benito Mussolini

    • You Obama haters are going to have to get your stories straight. There are pictures of Obama with a hammer and sickle behind him, and pictures of him with a Hitler mustache and swastika armband. If you read your history, the fascists and the commies hated, loathed one another. To label a half-African American, liberal politician a fascist is the height of ignorance-driven hyperbole. (Hitler, if he had a grave, would be turning over in it at such ludicrous comparison). And, by the way, no administration in recent history has done more to merge corporate America with state power than Bush. Are you not aware of how the Bush Neo-Cons created the biggest financial bubble since the 20’s? It is a joke to blame Obama, who has been in office 7 months and who walked into office trying to catch a falling knife with any of the financial disaster is a gross, Fox-news-like, mis-characterization of the facts.

      • firstboomer (another hippie on the Ben-the-hippie site, shocker). I don’t recall Bush taking over car companies, hiring and firing their CEO’s and wanting the Government to take over healtcare. You know what, blaming Bush can only go on for so long, so man-up and take the heat. Your guy is sitting in the oval office now and the ball is in his court.

And you Obama-lovers always fall back to the same ridiculous talking point…blame Fox News. Just because they are the only news not licking ‘Dear Leaders’ boots, you loathe them.

  5. By the way, interesting handle you’ve given yourself.

Look…I was an arch conservative, campaigned for Barry Goldwater before I could vote, and when I could, I voted for Nixon, Ford, Reagan (twice), Bush senior (twice), Dole, and W (twice). I supported the Viet Nam war way back then, supported the Iraq War, and about every other “conservative” campaign or position. So, don’t give me the Hippie label because you don’t know anything about me. I’m a committed capitalist. Incidentally, what has been lost in recent times is the notion of what makes a capitalist. A capitalist is one who risks his or her own money.

Back to my “transformation,” since you made an assumption I felt the need to address. It was after the second inauguration of W that I gradually realized what profoundly average intelligence W possessed, combined with the fatal flaw of having absolute “gut level” certainty about whatever it was. Rove (Mr. Vindictive himself), Cheney (we will be greeted as liberators), Wolfowitz (remember him? The Iraq war will be won at no net cost to the U.S. in a few months) were all horrifically wrong on Iraq. In addition, that same crew of Neo-Cons presided over the dismantling of regulations and departments charged with protecting the public from financial scams and abuses. That worked out well, didn’t it?

As to the “blame game” for the state of affairs now, it was under BUSH that the economy fell off a cliff. It was under BUSH that huge loans were authorized to Detroit. It was under BUSH that the Bank Bailout was structured. It was under Bush that fighting the real enemy in Afghanistan was relegated to second fiddle for years, giving the Taliban and Al Quaida time to rebuild their capabilities. Another bone-head move. Where in the world do you get off blaming Obama for all that? Yes, he is now in charge, and I think deserves some slack to work through this, even if you don’t support him in general.

By the way, as to “Government taking over health care,” wake up. First, the government has already “taken over” health care for millions of Americans–it’s called medicare. And, most people I know who are on it have no real complaints. They are not eager to roll back the clock and have to find their own health insurance in the marketplace, I can assure you. Second, we are the only nation in the developed world without some sort of mandated universal health care. We spend 17 % of our GDP on healthcare, 50 percent more than he next closest country in Europe, and double many of them. Yet, we rank way down on the list in terms of the overall health of our people. Explain that.

As to Fox “news,” there is clip after clip of twisted/nauseatingly slanted reporting, and even out and out lies, emanating from Hannity, Beck, Rove, and the rest of the crew. They will say anything that suits their goal of scaring and riling up their viewers. This is the power of Rupert Murdock.

But, tell you what. You are not going to change my mind. I am not going to change yours. I’m sure that in person you are a nice guy. Most people think the same about me. So, let’s just agree to disagree. I harbor no malice toward you, and certainly support your right to your opinion and the free expression of it. I think you’re wrong, that’s all. You think the same about me. Lastly, since I’m fairly confident you’ll want to get in the last word in our friendly little exchange, you go ahead and do that. I won’t respond. We both have better things to do from this point on, would you not agree? So…have a good life…peace.

  6. Exactly. Nice succinct post.
